The grant was used to pay a portion of the art teacher’s salary for Swan Valley Elementary School. Art is offered one day a week for all students in grades PK-8.
The Essential Question that guided our projects’ focus was:
How can we provide art for all of the students in grades PK-8 at Swan Valley Elementary School?
Art is provided for all students grades PK-8th grade at Swan Valley Elementary School. We are a small rural remote school serving about 75 students and 50% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. This is an opportunity for our students to explore other subjects.
At the conclusion of the project, students responded to questions related to the identified Standards:
One of the core standards was Standard Two: Critical Thinking. Students appreciate a good structured classroom environment where they are trusted to complete their work yet have ownership of their art products. The students appreciate Mrs. Stanger and her love for art and brining her expertise to Swan Valley.
Impact
At the end of the school year the students are given their portfolio for the year of all their projects. We love to watch students reactions as they look through their portfolio and look at all their work, witness their improvements, and realize they can develop their skills if they work on it.
Reflection
As the Administrator or Swan Valley Elementary School and as a parent of 4 children who attend this school and participate in art, I am truly humbled to receive this grant. Without this grant we may be placed in a position to not offer a quality art program. These funds are extremely valuable to our small rural remote school and help us to offer a well rounded experience in our school.
