Seth Teichert of MacKay & Morgan Buckert of Hailey

In 2004, Seth Teichert apprenticed with Steve and Bev Gilger of Dubois Leather and Shoe where he learned basic construction of lace-up boots. Teichert also took a class with Kurt Klemmer to learn pull-on bootmaking and studied with cowboy boot master Carl Chappel of St. Jo, Texas. Seth has built about 70 pairs of boots in his spare time – his job as a ranch manager has given him an appreciation for good boots, knowing that handmade boots last longer than the factory-made variety. He enjoys customizing boots to the wearer’s preferences and specifications – they can be plain and easy or intricate and difficult – Seth loves a challenge.

Apprentice Morgan Buckert resides in Hailey, Idaho; originally from South Texas she is influenced by traditional Western themes. Since 2009 Morgan has studied leather work and shoemaking. She attended Penland School of Crafts in 2013 and 2014 and has been awarded three grants from the Idaho Commission on the Arts to further develop her leather craft skills. From baby moccasins to portfolios and cowboy boots, Morgan creates each item by hand.

In 2016 Morgan was awarded a Quick Funds grant to apprentice with Seth. During her study Morgan completed her first pair of pull-on boots.
