Festival Dance & Performing Arts in residence at the University of Idaho seeks a creative and experienced individual for the position of Dance Academy Director. Festival Dance is a vibrant arts non-‐profit that has been “Bringing the Arts to the People and the People to the Arts” for over 40 years. The Dance Academy Director will contribute to this mission through managing the Academy, providing quality dance instruction, and overseeing Academy dance staff and programs. This position also involves teaching courses for the University of Idaho Dance Program. Choreographing for annual UI Dance Faculty Concert is optional and will be compensated separately.
This position presents a unique opportunity for a professional in the dance field to work in both an academy setting and a collegiate dance program preparing future dancers and instructors for careers in the performing arts. Festival Dance has been providing quality dance instruction to area residents for over 40 years, and functions as a lab for university dance program students to observe and practice effective teaching strategies for all ages and movement disciplines. This position will be ideal for someone who specializes in ballet and pointe, but is skilled in a variety of dance disciplines and has enthusiastic interest in teaching dance to children, adolescents, and college level students. Additionally, Festival Dance’s presence on the University of Idaho campus presents ample opportunity for creative collaborations with departments and programs on campus and in the community.
Reports To: Festival Dance & Performing Arts Executive Director
Salary/Hours: $32,000 full time. 50% teaching – 50% Academy management. Renewable position Start Date: June 1, 2020
Vacation : Six weeks of time off during the school year, including one week at Spring Break, one week at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, and two weeks in late July-‐early August.
