Envisioned by CMarie Fuhrman, Idaho Writer in Residence 2021-2023 in collaboration with Jocelyn Robertson, Literature Director for the Idaho Commission on the Arts, Idaho Between the Lines attempts to navigate the broad physical expanse, varied terrain, distinctive communities and contrasting cultures of our state, via pathways established by creators of prose and poetry.
Other platforms and programs exist to judge and bestow literary laurels, Idaho Between the Lines celebrates historical, established, experimental and emerging voices, authors’ that are innovators, educators, adventurers, dreamers, and disruptors, works that illuminate the depth of creative writing in our state. We hope to introduce our readers to author’s new to them, and help them rediscover favorites from times past. We endeavor to direct attention to underrepresented authors, marginalized voices and forgotten stories. Idaho is chock-full of clever communicators that we would love to catalogue, though, realistically, we are limited by time and resources; we do not expect to be comprehensive though we strive to be inclusive and nimble.
The population of Idaho, and our writing community, has grown by leaps and bounds, and writers can be transitory, isolated, and/or elusive, due to the nature of their work, or just because they’re human. We invite authors who self-identify as Idahoan to be in communication with us to determine or confirm inclusion in the archive, and to provide or validate biographical content.
