Governor’s Awards in the Arts 2024

Nominees for Governor’s Awards in the Arts must be Idaho residents, businesses based in Idaho, organizations or communities that have, through creative accomplishments or distinguished service, made a significant contribution to the cultural life of Idaho.

The Awards

EXCELLENCE IN THE ARTS

Representing Idaho artists of exceptional talent and creativity, in any discipline, whose contribution to the arts has helped guide and influence the direction, trends, and aesthetic practices in the state or on a national or international level.

EXCELLENCE IN FOLK AND TRADITIONAL ARTS

Recognizes the quality of Idaho’s tradition bearers and dedication to their cultural community. This award honors a lifetime of commitment to an expressive practice that defines the cultural heritage of both a particular community and that of the larger state.

EXCELLENCE IN ARTS EDUCATION

Celebrates individuals and organizations making exceptional contributions to arts education. Awardees have helped grow opportunities for arts learning in schools and in out-of-school settings to cultivate a creative future for Idaho.

SUPPORT OF THE ARTS

Honors individuals, groups, and organizations who have made a significant impact on the civic and cultural vitality of the arts in Idaho. Awardees encourage the arts through time, talent, or funding and are recognized as leaders, innovators, supporters, and advocates.

EXCELLENCE IN ARTS ADMINISTRATION

Recognizes individuals and organizations working to produce exceptional cultural or artistic content, this award honors the impact arts administrators have on the cultural vitality of the arts in Idaho.

Before Submitting

Please review the list of prior recipients (sorted alphabetically by last name or business name). The award cannot be received twice.

What You Will Need

  • Nominations must include a brief description of why the nominee merits the award, 2-3 letters of recommendation, and support materials such as press articles, a résumé or bio, and/or an artist statement. Examples of artwork are strongly encouraged for the Excellence in the Arts and Traditional Arts categories.
  • Nominations are accepted through our online grant application system at grants.arts.idaho.gov. If you are new to this system, you will need to register an account and wait for staff approval before starting a nomination form. Look for Governor’s Awards in the Arts – 2024, in the Opportunities section.
  • The deadline to submit nominations is May 15, 2024.
