Commission Service

Arts Idaho Commissioners serve as ambassadors for the agency, working across the state to ensure that all Idahoans have access to the arts and arts education, and to their cultural and artistic heritage. The Commission consists of thirteen gubernatorially-appointed Commissioners, each serving a term of four years with the possibility of reappointment for consecutive terms. Members serve at the pleasure of the Governor, who appoints the Chair and Vice Chair. Members are selected for their leadership, interest, competence, and experience in the arts.

READ ABOUT THE ROLE OF A COMMISSIONER

DUTIES OF THE COMMISSION

  1. Support and further the mission of the agency.
  2. Select the executive director.
  3. Work with the Executive Director to develop, monitor and revise long range plans.
  4. Ensure that agency goals and objectives are achieved effectively and efficiently.
  5. Ensure that all legal and ethical responsibilities of the agency are fulfilled.
  6. Monitor the use of the agency’s resources.
  7. Provide final approval for grant funding.

DUTIES OF INDIVIDUAL COMMISSIONERS

  1. Serve as an ambassador for Arts Idaho, playing a visible, active role in the local arts community and keeping abreast of developments with artists and arts organizations.
  2. Maintain positive relationships with local legislators, civic leaders, and constituents.
  3. Acting in accordance with the Governor’s priorities, advocate for the arts in Idaho.
  4. Participate in all quarterly commission meetings.
  5. Serve on committees as needed and be willing to chair a committee.
  6. Serve as the chair of one of more grant panels each year, as requested.

Arts Idaho relies on the expertise, advice, and varied experiences of all commissioners in order to be effective and productive. Consistent meeting attendance and participation are paramount to these efforts. In the event that a commissioner should miss two consecutive meetings of the Commission, the Chair will confer with him or her to decide what actions may be most appropriate, up to and including a consideration of resignation.

We are currently seeking candidates from the following areas: Moscow, Lewiston, Orofino, Grangeville, New Meadows, McCall.
