The Idaho Commission on the Arts does not endorse the listings posted on this page. They are collected from a variety of sources, and artists are advised to contact organizations directly for information. Most competitions charge a fee to offset exhibition costs and for cash awards, but excessive fees for an entry should be questioned.
If your organization would like an opportunity listed on this page, fax a brief description to: ICA Web Opportunities at 208-334-2119, or email the information to us at info@arts.idaho.gov.

We have opened the Call for Artists for our 4th Annual Horizontal Grandeur.
Inspired by an essay of the same name by Minnesota poet Bill Holm (1943-2009), this fine art exhibition has grown each and every year. Last year we had 93 entries from 11 prairie states for the 50 exhibit spaces in our historic national award winning space. Because of the success, the call has opened up earlier this year. January 15th - April, 23rd, 2010 has been set as the open submission time. That will give our jury more time to judge the pieces and still allow the exhibit to be hung and the exhibit open by
July 9th, 2010.
The Call for Artists calendar and terms, with an on-line submission form is located on our website www.stevenshistorymuseum.com. The Horizontal Grandeur page can be reached by clicking on the Horizontal Grandeur link in top tab section or directly at http://www.stevenshistorymuseum.com/grandeur/2010form.phpto read more about it or submit images online.
To print out a hardcopy of our call brochure, and mail in the entries with a check or money order, you can download a pdf file at this link:
http://www.stevenshistorymuseum.com/Forms/2010Grandeur-call.pdf
If you have never read Bill Holm's essay, you can download a pdf file of it by visiting http://www.stevenshistorymuseum.com/grandeur/billgrandeur.pdf
All artists who live in a state with a prairie are eligible to submit entries. The pieces must be inspired by the prairie and meet certain size requirements as outlined on our website. Please feel free to forward this email or publish the information or any of the links in your correspondence or organizational periodicals. If you would like a copy of our call poster, email me, and I will forward you the color pdf file.

CORVALLIS-BENTON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
CALL TO ARTISTS
Request for Qualifications for Art for the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library
October 2009
The Corvallis-Benton County Public Library announces a Request for Qualifications to select an artist to create a mobile for the Library lobby.
The Library is located in downtown Corvallis and is heavily used, with about 2000 visitors daily. The original building was designed by Pietro Belluschi and was constructed in the early 1930’s. There are two subsequent additions, one in 1965 and another in 1992. The space where the mobile would hang is the apex of the 1992 addition. More information on the Library may be found at www.thebestlibrary.net.
Project Overview: The Library is in the midst of a multi-year rearranging project to improve efficiency and provide sufficient space for materials and library users. One of the goals of the rearrangement project is to make the lobby a welcoming and comfortable space. A mobile, to be hung from the apex of the second floor, would be a part of creating this welcoming environment.
Scope of work: The mobile will hang from the apex of the second floor or other anchoring possibilities, so it can be seen from both the second floor and the first floor lobby. It will hang into an open atrium area connecting the two floors. The dimensions of the lobby are 15’ x 17’. The height of the area is about 22’ from the floor on the second story to the apex of the roof. About 7 of those feet are in the roof area which comes to a point. The area from the floor on the first floor to the floor of the second floor is about 14’6” (for comparison only-- the art piece will not hang in that area). Only lightweight materials may be used such as lightweight woods, fabric, plastics, paper, aluminum, small amounts of glass, etc. Not to exceed 80 lbs, exact weight specifications will be made available. The mobile should have a high level of transparency to let the natural light in. The artist must be careful not to obscure the existing art glass tiles on the railing surrounding the atrium with the new artwork. It is necessary to use lightfast materials in this strongly lit area. A mechanism allowing for cleaning and maintenance must be included. Images of the lobby can be viewed on line at www.thebestlibrary.net.
The artist will arrange for and guide the installation in cooperation with the Library’s building maintenance staff. The artist must be aware of the challenges of designing art for a heavily-used public space such as the possibility of damage, tossed materials, etc as well as keeping safety in mind.
Once awarded the project and the work is in progress, the artist will send images to keep the Public Art Selection Committee and Library staff informed of the project at a half way point.

What: Call to Artists for 2011The Arts Center exhibition program
Where: The Arts Center, 700 SW Madison, Corvallis OR, 97333
When: Deadline March 27, postmarked
Each calendar year The Arts Center’s Main Gallery features ten exhibits, five of which reoccur annually. The Arts Center Exhibition Committee is seeking proposals for the exhibition program 2011 in the Main Gallery. All artists from the Northwest are eligible.
We are interested in all media including installation work, but excluding performance. The Exhibition Committee seeks a balanced exhibition program; in media as painting, drawing, fiber, photography, print making, sculpture etc. We also look for balance between large and small group shows, retrospectives and one person exhibits or installations. It is The Arts Center’s goal to show work by local artists and to introduce work from artists of the larger Northwest area. Both established and upcoming artists are encouraged to submit work.
In 2011 The Arts Center will be participating in the Benton County Historical Museum bi-annual Quilt County event. For this exhibit we look for artwork that answers to the “many small –individual- pieces make one larger whole” principal that is the basis of traditional quilts, but not necessarily in traditional quilting materials.
The Committee reserves the right to combine several artists that have submitted individually.
The Arts Center is located in downtown Corvallis in a late 19th century church building. The Gallery measures approx. 1200 sq feet, with 135’ of linear wall space. Images from the gallery are posted on www.theartscenter.net under Exhibitions, Call to Artists.
